March 29, 2022 • POETRY WORKSHOP • Dr. Carol Barrett – Pandemic Poetry: Biting Hard Crackers
7:00 – 8:30 PM EST
A small assembly of poems from the many which have been published in the last two years will jumpstart our poetic exploration of the pandemic. The workshop will help give voice to a wide array of experiences, ranging from humorous self-reflection, to the disruption of household routines, the debilitation of illness, the psychic challenges of isolation, and the tragic loss of a loved one. Participants are encouraged to select one consequence they have experienced since the announcement of the pandemic, and share their unique journey through a new poem, with the opportunity to offer it to the group, if desired.
About the workshop facilitator:
Carol Barrett holds doctorates in both Creative Writing and Clinical Psychology. She has published two volumes of poetry (Calling in the Bones and Drawing Lessons) and one of Creative Nonfiction, titled Pansies. She coordinates the Creative Writing Certificate Program at Union Institute & University, where she teaches doctoral students in Interdisciplinary Studies. She also teaches Psychology doctoral students at Saybrook University. Carol enjoys sending her poems to places one would not typically look for poetry – JAMA, The Climbing Art, The Bee Keeper’s Journal, Oregon Birds – as well as literary magazines and anthologies.
