ABOUT
Friends of Theodore Roethke Foundation
The Friends of Theodore Roethke Foundation (FOTR) was established as a 501c3 non-profit in 1999. FOTR has been committed to promoting, preserving, and protecting the literary legacy of Theodore Roethke, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Saginaw native, since the foundation’s inception. They do this by making poetry and literacy initiatives accessible to the general public, both in-person and online.
Most in-person programming takes place on the grounds of the Roethke House and the neighboring Stone House, the two most unique and important artifacts under FOTR’s care. Both houses are owned by FOTR outright and without debt. They have both been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, they share a state historic interpretive marker as official Michigan Historic Landmarks, and the Roethke House has been granted recognition as a National Literary Landmark.
MISSION
FOTR seeks to promote, preserve, and protect the literary legacy of Theodore Roethke, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, by restoring his family residences in Saginaw, Michigan, for cultural and educational opportunities.
VISION
The Roethke House and Stone House will be sought after places for visitors from around the world, encouraging a culture of literary excellence.
INCLUSION
FOTR celebrates and values the rich diversity of our community. We welcome all people into the Roethke House and Stone House, regardless of beliefs or doubts, age, color, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical, mental, or emotional ability or economic status. No person shall, on these grounds, be excluded from participating in any FOTR program or activity.
