Self-Portrait Workshop with Mary McDonnell
Join us this weekend at the Stone House Studio (next door to the Roethke House) and begin building your visual autobiography. Discover what constitutes a ‘self-portrait,’ and how to express your authentic self through art. We will experiment with materials and process, transforming emotion, memory and experience into art to demonstrate ‘self-portrait’ from multiple perceptions.
Introductory session times: Choose one of the following introductory session times for an overview of materials, hands-on techniques, group discussion, and guidance. (Approximately one hour). After the introductory session, create one--or multiple--“self-portrait” pieces. No limits here!

Drop-ins welcome. If you cannot arrive at the hours above, come when you can, an overview will be provided as needed. (Approximately 30 minutes.)
Stone House Studio hours: The Stone House will be open for studio hours for the duration, both days, with materials and one-on-one guidance available. Please stay as long as you like to work on your project.

Public display of final portraits: An Open Mic at Roethke House starts at 6pm Saturday, with Floet kicking us off. We’ll put some of our final pieces on display for that event.* Please join us! it’s sure to be a fun and lively evening. Your artwork may also be photographed and published on our website, at friendsofroethke.org. *You may take your art home after the open mic session.

The workshop is free and open to the public
Art materials will be supplied.
Dinner on Friday, and lunch and dinner on Saturday, will be provided for all participants.
Participants will also receive a complementary Roethke tote or a hardcover blank journal. Email info@friendsofroethke.org with questions.
Parking is in the grass on the east side of the Stone House, or on side streets Sandra or Larch. Please do not cut across the apartment complex parking lot.
