Spoken Word Workshop with Floet

Unleash your voice through the transformative power of spoken word poetry.

Floet and Keairra will get the discussion started by sharing some of their own work related to a specific theme (TBD), and then you’ll have some time to write on your own and share your work with the group. This event is free and open to all experience levels. Registration is not required.

Location: In person at the Roethke House, 1805 Gratiot Ave, Saginaw, MI.

Additionally:

  • Everyone who attends will receive a complementary Roethke tote or a hardcover blank journal.

  • Light dinner is included. If you have food sensitivities, please email info@friendsofroethke.org at least one day ahead of time.

  • Parking is in the grass on the east side of the Stone House, or on side streets Sandra or Larch. Please do not cut across the apartment complex parking lot.

  • Due to the historic nature of the Roethke House, there are stairs required to enter the house and the bathroom is not ADA compliant.

  • Email info@friendsofroethke.org with questions.

This workshop is funded through the Saginaw Harm Reduction Project to increase community awareness of addiction and recovery through public art and educational materials in the City of Saginaw. The Friends of Theodore Roethke Foundation is proud to be a contributing partner. These workshops are free and open to the public.

About Floet

Charles “Floet” Townsel, better known as Floet, is a nationally known Saginaw poet. Floet has been writing and performing spoken word poetry since 2007 as a member of a poetry group known as the YEP Organization, which first thrust him into the public eye. As a child, he wanted to be a “rapper” but chose the path of poet and spoken word artist because of his love of words and the effect they have. Floet has also appeared in many poetry slams around the country, such as Rustbelt Regional Poetry in Columbus Ohio and in Madison Wisconsin;  The Apache Café in Atlanta, Georgia, and many others. He runs Daisybern Productions and is working on podcasts, publications, and a musical spoken word project.
