Open House 2022, August 4, 5, & 6

We’ve had a wonderfully full 2022 so far with an active Virtual Spring Speakers series, the many writing workshops and book launch party for the Saginaw Chapbook Project, and a collaboration with the Saginaw Art Musuem for Roethke’s Birthday Month in May. This summer, we’re finally back in-person for readings at the house and our literacy camp for kids. We’re working with around 80 fourth grade students from the City of Saginaw over the course of several weeks, and we also have a new pilot program with students working one-on-one with high school student tutors.

Our 2022 season will culminate this week with Open House 2022. This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday please drop by 1805 Gratiot Ave, Saginaw, MI, between 4:00 and 8:00. The full agenda and registration links for some events can be found here. You can also follow us on Facebook for regular updates.

New this year:

  • Historic, literary, and kid-friendly tours on Thursday and Friday—these are much different from last year’s tour, so even if you toured with us last year, if you’re interested in Roethke and Saginaw history, it’s worth coming out again. We've also got a poetry reading, writing workshop, and slam event planned.

  • A poetry writing workshop on Friday.

  • A concert by Major Chords for Minors on Saturday. [NOTE TO OUR NEIGHBORS: This is an outdoor concert, so you may hear this music if you live close by. Please come by and enjoy it in person!]

  • ADA ramps to BOTH houses (as well as on-site accessible parking and porta-pottys).

  • Credit cards accepted for swag, donations, and memberships (the event itself is free).

We’ll end the weekend with Slam on Saturday night with Jared Morningstar hosting again. This is not new, but it went so well last year that we’re doing it again. Come out and read or support other local writers (no experience necessary!)

It’s all free, thanks to funding from Michigan Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
