Theodore Roethke Foundation
Preserving and promoting the legacy of the great American poet, Theodore Roethke.
The Friends of Theodore Roethke (FOTR) Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization established in 1999. The Foundation is committed to promoting, preserving, and protecting the literary legacy of Theodore Roethke. In addition, FOTR offers a robust seasonal calendar of educational and literary programs for adults and children.
THE POET
Theodore Roethke, Pulitzer-prize Winning Poet
Theodore Roethke ranks among the greatest American poets of the 20th Century and was a major influence on his peers and a generation of writers that followed.
Former U.S. Poet Laureate and author James Dickey wrote Roethke was “in my opinion the greatest poet this country has yet produced.” In 2012, he was featured on a United States postage stamp as one of ten great American poets. Among his many honors, Roethke received the Pulitzer Prize and twice the National Book Award.

Theodore Roethke Home Museum
The Roethke House in Saginaw, Michigan is the most unique and important artifact under FOTR’s care.
The Roethke House museum, under the stewardship of the Friends of Theodore Roethke (FOTR) Foundation, is open to the public for events throughout the year.

The Stone House
Theodore’s uncle, Carl Roethke, lived in the adjacent fieldstone house today referred to as the Stone House.
The Stone House protects and extends FOTR’s mission to offer cultural and educational opportunities related to the poet’s living legacy. It has escaped demolition and is now the subject of a stabilization fundraising drive.
