FOTR awarded grants totaling $7,000
Friends of Theodore Roethke Foundation is pleased to announce the receipt of two grants totaling $7,000.
Friends of Theodore Roethke Foundation (FOTR) is grateful to have received a recent grant award of $5,000 from the Michigan Humanities Council H.O.P.E. Grants and through funding provided by the NEH through the Corona virus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, that made one-time grants to eligible nonprofit arts and cultural organizations throughout Michigan, that have been negatively impacted as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Additionally, the FOTR has received a recent grant award of $2,000 from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). MCACA, through funding provided by the NEA through the CARES Act, made a total of $502,400 in one-time grants.
This support will help us with operational costs and contracted literary presenters this summer. Such funds will help us continue Roethke House seasonal activities, including the literary picnic series in its twentieth summer, that add to quality of community life. Even with some summer activities on hold, our operating expenses continue as well as fundraising efforts to save the Stone House, adjacent residence of poet’s uncle. Once saved, two Roethke family homes will extend our potential for community outreach as we celebrate the poet by serving his hometown.
We thank these organizations for enabling us to fund our operational expenses and fund our contracted presenters this summer, and we thank our local community for your ongoing support and engagement. We will post updated information here on our blog and social media sites as summer event plans develop.
